Capsule Review: Punk rock. Glasgow band I take it. They seem promotionally oriented, which I don't see as a bad thing, and I enjoyed the three trax they had up at MySpazzy.

Capsule review: With Flickering Lexicon's band, the Mac Drums (sound like 1989) and vox are questionable, but the guitar and keyboard are very fun because you can always play spot the influences -- same way you could with Pavement in the Perfect Sound Forever / Slanted and Enchanted era. He does not ape the influences -- it sounds like songs you never heard before by old time, classic bands you love. This is a rare talent that shines throughout the Power Switchblade LP Full Orchestral Strength. "Jetlag" (see below) is especially nice in this regard because Power Switchblade takes a break from SST emulate mode (nuttin' wrong wit dat!!!) and does a Style Council meets English Beat tune. Two great influences that sound great together and not quite like any particular song by either canonical band. With a live drummer, this song could really take off. If he could get Paul Weller to sing it, it could finally chart at last.

Capsule Review: Simple, spooky noise of cheap electronics overdriven to within an inch of their overdriven lives. In the same ballpark as the work of Stephen Fall or Dave The Fall Fan's Laptop Dancers. These kinds of songs remind me of the great 1980's movie Electric Dreams because the circuitry itself seems malevolent.

Capsule Review: Opel is a friend of mine and a good one. The fact that I could feel that way about somebody I have only met thru the Net is a testament to the force of her personality and intelligence. Musically, she sounds like Daniel Johnston. Retired Boxer / Respect era Danial Johnston to be precise. Not for everybody. Defo for me, tho.

Capsule Review: "Bathyscaphe" by Drowned UFO is a short and crackly noise piece. Seceret information may be modulated into the lurching of the rhythm. I like songs like this interspersed sporadically into a mostly rawk playlist. Gives the eardrums a rest while not losing head energy.
